The simple honey bee traps made from bamboo are still the best way to make one of the best insect traps in the world, according to scientists.
The researchers, from the University of Bristol, found that by using an easy-to-follow technique they could successfully trap a honeybee and study its behavior using a live bee to record the behaviour.
They also managed to use this technique to record behaviour from the queen bee of the same species and also from other species.
“These are very high quality honey bee studies that could provide valuable information to help us understand how these species respond to certain stressors,” said lead author Professor Peter Smith from the Bristol Botanic Gardens.
This work was funded by the British Research Council.
